March 27th, 2019 /EqualOcean/ - A signing ceremony held in Mianyang, Sichuan Province to introduce WM Motor's Self-Driving Technology Center project. During the event, WM Motor has officially launched the WM Living Pilot intelligent travel assistance system as well.
Living Pilot is an advanced intelligent driving assistance system co-developed by WM motor and Bosch. Shen Hui - the founder, chairman, and CEO of WM Motor- has stated that the system is capable of L2-class advanced driving assistance. The company's L3-class driving assistance solution is expected to be available to implement by 2021.
According to WM, the Living Pilot system has four ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System): ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), stop&go, PAEB (Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking) and LCA (Lane Change Assistance).
In order to tackle these functions, the new EX5 comes with a high-definition camera, three millimeter-wave radars, four panoramic cameras, and 12 ultrasonic radars. The new EX5 will officially be launched on April 12 during the WM Motor branding night and the Living Pilot will make its debut with EX5.
Shen Hui also announced that the Autonomous Driving Technology Center integrates an R&D centre with a complete autonomous driving experiment park. WM Motor is going to build the first demonstration highway of high-speed autonomous driving in Mianyang city. The location is strategic: in addition to the runway and road conditions for the autonomous driving testing, the local government has also provided a complete supply chain and has helped to cultivate talent for the sake of the project. Mianyang city meets all the requirements for the feasibility of the project.
During the CES 2019, WM Motor and Baidu have announced a long-term strategic partnership for the development of L3 and L4 autonomous driving solutions. Meanwhile, both parties agreed to set up the “WM Motor & Apollo Joint ICV Technology R&D Center” to promote the popularization of self-driving EV technologies in China.
WM Motor is one of the leading companies amongst China’s EV makers. The company has a well-functioning EV mass production factory and has already started to deliver on September 2018 by closing CNY 3 billion Series C led by Baidu on 8 March 2019. The new investment aims to increase the national competitive advantage in autonomous driving. According to the CEO, the investment will be primarily used to deliver an enhanced driving experience, as well as the R&D of the intelligent cockpit.
So far, WM Motor has raised around CNY 23 billion and is getting ready to produce self-driving EV models in 2021 that will be equipped with L3 automation.
