According to a microelectronics industry insider with direct knowledge of the matter, Chinese telecommunication behemoth Huawei is currently pondering plans on building a brand-new semiconductor plant in the mainland. The company has been effectively banned from third-party fabrication services provided by TSMC (2330:TW, TSM:NYSE) and is not capable of physically producing its HiSilicon-designed System-on-a-Chips (SoCs) Kirin, among other products.
