The European Association of automotive suppliers said the shortage of semiconductors has delayed production of 500000 vehicles worldwide and could continue to drag down automakers until 2022. Thorsten muschal, President of the association, said the second quarter of 2021 would be very challenging, with large-scale production interruptions, delays and occasional shutdowns still in place, and some EU automakers would have to reduce production, and they might not be able to rebuild their inventories by the end of this year or early 2022.
