In the first quarter of 2021, BIS issued a questionnaire survey on central bank digital currency to 50 central banks around the world. The survey results show that about two-thirds of the central banks are conducting experiments or tests on the central bank's digital currency, and more than half of the central banks believe that improving the efficiency of cross-border payment is one of the main reasons for the development of the central bank's digital currency. Previously, the survey results released by the bank for International Settlements in January 2021 showed that 86% of the banks interviewed were discussing the advantages and disadvantages of central bank digital currency, 60% were conducting experiments or proof of concept, and 14% were entering the development and testing stage.
