King Abdullah II of Jordan met with visiting Palestinian President Abbas. Abdullah II said that Jordan firmly supports the Palestinian people and their cause. He stressed that the only way to end the Palestinian Israeli conflict is the "two state solution", that is, to ensure the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the basis of the june4,1967 border. He also stressed the need to maintain the historical status and status quo of the Al Aqsa Mosque and its holy temple mount in the old city of Jerusalem (Muslims call it the "noble forbidden area"). Abbas expressed appreciation for Jordan's position in supporting Palestine and thanked Jordan for its efforts in maintaining the Al Aqsa Mosque and holy sites. In addition, the meeting discussed the developments after the dissolution of the Israeli parliament and its impact on the region.
