Feb 24, 2019/EqualOcean/- Alibaba Cloud (阿里云) started inviting several clients to test its Hybrid Cloud Solution partnered with VMware and the solution is expected to test publicly soon, according to a developer in Yunqi Community, Alibaba’s open developer platform, reported by LeiPhone. VMware provides cloud infrastructure and digital workspace technology to over 500,000 customers globally.
The two partnerships announced their cooperation last September at the Computing Conference 2018 (also known as Yunqi Conference). As the world’s top IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) provider, Alibaba Cloud aims to combine VMware's hybrid cloud software portfolio with its scalable cloud infrastructure, enabling enterprises to easily extend their existing workloads from on-premises data centers to the cloud. VMware’s software-defined data center (SDDC) is the ideal architecture for private, public, and hybrid clouds. SDDC provides NSX, vSphere, and vSAN, enabling pervasive and end-to-end connectivity for enterprise apps and data, accelerating enterprise digital transformation to hybrid cloud and provides Software-Defined service, respectively. The three main services can be operating in Alibaba Cloud.
Alibaba Cloud is China’s largest provider of public cloud service and recorded a negative 4% EBITDA margin.
China’s IP geographic location and research company IPIP.NET released Global Cloud Service Providers IP Analysis Report 2018H2 recently, reviewed by LeiPhone. The report shows that AWS (Amazon Web Services) still dominates in the total registration number of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPV6) with 63 million units, keeping a 20% growth rate. Amazon reported a USD 6.67 billion revenue in its cloud service business AWS, growing 46% (YoY), in the third quarter ended September 30, 2018 (see more in this article). Noticeably, the growth rate of the business revenue surpassed that of its active IPs. This phenomenon also happened in Azure, the cloud computing arm of Microsoft. Alibaba Cloud maintained its second place with around 15 million IP registration and 2.97 million active IP registration, followed by Azure, Tencent, and Google.
As huge business as AWS is, it has maintained a good growth rate in the IP registration and active IP in 2018H2, growing 19.87% and 33.55% respectively compared to 2018H1. Alibaba Cloud grew 0.45% in the total registration IP and 14.19% in the active IP number in the same period.
As for market segmentation, American enterprises still take up a large amount of market, but Chinese companies are emerging. One of the biggest advantages of Alibaba Cloud is the backer Softbank, which invested in tons of startups and those startups can be Alibaba Cloud's potential clients.
