Chinese coffee start-up Luckin Coffee is planning a tie-up with Meituan Dianping, China's leading e-commerce platform for on-demand services, to deliver coffee and other food products through Meituan Dianping's delivery network in China.

Dec 18, 2018 /EqualOcean/ - According to information from SCMP, Chinese coffee start-up Luckin Coffee is planning a tie-up with Meituan Dianping, China's leading e-commerce platform for on-demand services, to deliver coffee and other food products through Meituan Dianping's delivery network in China.

This cooperation is perceived to be an alliance against Alibaba's cooperation with the global coffee giant Starbucks. Starbucks started to cooperate with Alibaba backed ele.me in August this year, and recently announced a much more comprehensive cooperation with Alibaba to fully connect the membership systems of both companies. Consumers would purchase Starbucks products not only on ele.me, but also on Tmall, Alipay, Freshhema, etc.

Though SCMP only provides this information with the source of “people familiar with the situation", EqualOcean had communicated with Meituan Dianping and confirmed this information.

Some industry insiders have revealed to EqualOcean that the subsidy for the rider of Luckin Coffee “should be the top three in the industry”, with the cooperation with the Meituan Dianping, there might be a consideration of delivery cost reduction.
