Video++ to Build an Ecosystem of Interactive Video Services

Video++ held a conference releasing its Flow Planet Plan(流量星球计划) on May 10th in Shanghai. In the conference, executives and scientists of Video++ discussed with industry experts the future of AI-enabled video traffic monetization, and announced their three-year ecosystem goal of reaching 1 trillion traffic flow and CNY 10 billion (USD 1.45 billion) volume.  

Flow Planet Plan, with financing cost CNY 1.2 billion (USD 174 million), aims to use AI to solve the quandary over streaming service provider, including video platforms, APPs, OTTs, MTVs, etc., who are seeking a balance between traffic monetization and user experience. Joining the plan, the streaming providers are equipped with AI technology of video playing, interaction, advertising and E-commerce with no charge.

In 2018, Video++ had transitioned its VideoOS to be open-source. Instead of doing customized advertising projects for clients, open source VideoOS and the Flow Planet Plan enable Video++ to focus on creating an ecosystem and broaden its scope from advertising to E-commerce, education, encyclopedia, and games.

These two actions shift Video++' s business model from project-oriented to platform-oriented. More data and interactions sustain stronger analytical skills, which will further increase Video++' s capability in AI advertising.

Most streaming service providers currently use pre-roll ads, a video advertisement that automatically plays before the user-selected videos. In order to find the balance between user experience and monetization, video platforms tend to use membership subscription to earn money. However, according to Fortune, taking YouTube Red as an example, the subscription service of YouTube accounts only 7% of its revenue. Monetization is still an issue for platform and content providers.

With AI, streaming service providers can insert ads inside the specified content to a target audience. In this way, providers are likely to make money without being annoying. Currently, Video++ only focuses on detecting specific scenes to insert product and ads. If combining this scene-detecting feature with audience detecting, AI enabled video ads will be more enjoyable.
