Further Cooperation Starts at UAE-China Economic Forum 2019 in Beijing

UAE-China Economic Forum was held today in Beijing, it brought together over 500 high-ranking delegation and business leaders seeking cooperation opportunities. China's innovation companies like Didi and Luckin Coffee showed.

Chinese President Xi Jinping (习近平) held talks with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday, July 22, 2019. Leaders of the two countries expressed shared aspiration of the friendly relations and further cooperation, at the national level.

As part of the whole program for celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations Establishment between the UAE and China, UAE-China Economic Forum was also held today at China World Hotel, Beijing City, which brought together over 500 high-ranking ministerial delegation and business leaders from the UAE and China, seeking opportunities to cooperate.

The Forum focused on two themes: “Sustainable Partnership, Sustainable Investment”, provided a platform to discuss the importance of innovation towards growth across key sectors in both countries.

Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative, Mr. Yu Jianhua, gave the opening remarks, expressed support for the multilateral trading system. He also suggested to jointly build the Belt and Road cooperation, to promote bilateral trade and investment, and to deepen cooperation on technology innovation like AI, digital economy, and 5G, etc.

At this Economic Forum, 19 MoUs and agreements are signed. Several of China’s unicorns and startups that represent China’s technology innovations showed at the forum and build cooperation with companies from the UAE.

Didi, China’s largest ride-hailing platform, signed MoU with Symphony Investment, which is funded by a group of multinational companies in the Middle East; Luckin Coffee, the biggest chain of coffee shops in China, signed with Americana, the leading Restaurants & Foods company in MENA.

“I welcome today’s signing of memorandums of understanding between the institutions of the UAE and China and look forward to their contributions to building a more prosperous future for the two countries”, said H.E. Eng. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy.
