On December 9-11, 2020, EqualOcean will host this year's World Innovators Meet (WIM). WIM2020 will take on a bolder stance and adopt a more global outlook by taking the form of an online conference that will be streamed simultaneously in all countries and regions that champion the realm of technology and innovation.

During the World Innovators Meet, the WIM Committee will release the annual blockbuster WIA list, the World Innovation Awards, based on our annual industry and investment research findings, together with a series of research reports.

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Yang Yao, Dean of National School of Development at Peking University, is confirmed to speak at WIM 2020. He will be speaking about the global implications of China's market and development path from the perspective of technological innovation.

Prof. Yang Yao is a Chinese economist, academic and author. He is the Dean of the National School of Development at Peking University, Director of China Center for Economic Research, Executive Director of the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development and Editor of China Economic Quarterly. He has published widely in international and domestic journals as well as produced several sole-authored and co-authored books on institutional economics and economic development in China, including Equity and Social Justice in Transitional China (Renmin University Press, 2004), Globalization and Economic Growth in China (co-editor, World Scientific, 2006), CSR and Competitiveness in China (co-author, Foreign Languages Press, 2009), Reform and Economic Growth: What Can China Offer to the World? (co-editor, Taylor & Francis, 2010), and Economic Reform and Institutional Innovation (Gale Asia/Cengage Learning, 2009).

His research is primarily focused on economic development and institutional change in China. Prof. Yao conceptualized 'China's development path' in Global Implications of Chinese Experience, in which he outlined the impact of China's transformational development on a global scale.

Based on his definition, the implications can be discussed in four aspects. First, the Chinese revolution which happened at the beginning of 20th century is part of the global modernization and a contributor to the social equality of China. Second, the essential benefits of the examination system of ancient China have been passed down to the modern society, which places important influence on the democratization of developing countries. Third, China has focused on the institutional effectiveness rather than institutional purity throughout the nation's institutional development. Lastly, the Chinese government has remained neutral among social groups, which makes it possible to adopt policies that can boost economic growth.

Over the past years, Prof. Yao has actively shared his thoughts on China's development with academics and the public. Given that China is playing a more important role in the new era of globalization, Prof. Yao will shed new insights into China's development. We are excited to hear his take on the global implications of China's market development path in terms of technological innovation at WIM2020.
