China Eastern Airlines and China Telecom Establish In-Flight Internet Company

Utilizing the resource from China Eastern Airlines and China Telecom, the new company is estimated to have a leading business scale in the industry.

On December 16, 2020, China Eastern Airlines and China Telecom jointly establish an in-flight communications company, KDlink Technology. The new-formed company’s mission is to enable more passengers to enjoy faster and more convenient in-flight Internet service. Meanwhile, it will also develop on-board first aid and intelligent cabin services. China Eastern Airlines and China Telecom both take 42.5% shares of the new company, while Shanghai JuneYao takes 15% shares.

 As early as 2014, China Eastern Airlines and China Telecom complete the first inflight communications commercial test flight of China. Recently, China Eastern Airlines has 94 equipped with in-flight communications systems, and Junyao Airlines, a subsidiary of Shanghai Juneyao, has at least three ones. The two companies have more than 100 in-flight communications aircraft in total, accounting for 54% of the total number in China. The number of passengers served covers 80% of the whole industry. It is estimated that the business scale of the new company will be in the leading position in the industry.
