Global Entrepreneurship Report: 50 Best Cities to Start Up
EO Intelligence has presented a report to gauge different cities’ ability to host entrepreneurs and their projects.
For years, innovation and entrepreneurship have been rapidly expanding. The statistics from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) show that the progress of global innovation is booming, even as the growth of the global economy is slowing down. Focusing on that trend, EO Intelligence analysts have researched the expansion of startups globally and released their breakdown of the Global Top 50 cities for Entrepreneurs, which evaluates the performance of cities in facilitating development among startups and entrepreneurial communities.
The reason we are considering entrepreneur activities on the city level is the intersection between urbanization and entrepreneur activity levels. Population urbanization tends to increase mobility, which will facilitate communication and exchange of resources. In addition, entrepreneurial activities in a given city are beneficial to the growth of the economy by creating more jobs opportunities and more demand on relating industrial materials. All the above effects will promote the success of entrepreneur.
As for cities that are friendly to startups, which are called entrepreneur cities in this report, most of them are located in the US, including the top 3 entrepreneur cities in the world – San Francisco, New York and Cambridge – containing the largest number of companies whose financing amount over $10,000,000 in 2019.
In the matter of startups, EO Intelligence analyzed the financing amounts of the highest 100 companies in 2019; 43 of them were established in America, 19 were headquartered in China, followed by India with 9. Most of these 100 startups are centered on finance, industrial Internet and transportation. All these 100 startups were invested in by several institutional investors, with the Government of Singapore Investment Corp, Softbank Group, Tencent, DST Global and T. Rowe Price in the top 5 places.
