Nov 29, DJI（大疆）debuted its newest tiny handheld gimbal product Osmo Pocket in New York, the smallest handheld stabilizer the drone or camera company has ever made. The Osmo Pocket is clearly designed to compete with GoPro and march into the booming era of short video.
Counted on the legions of influencers and millions of followers, TikTok（抖音） has propelled its owner ByteDance（字节跳动） to a reported valuation of USD 75 billion, making it one of the most valuable start-ups in the world. Sensor Tower estimates that TikTok took in roughly USD 3.5 million in October this year.
The Osmo Pocket stands just 4.8 inches tall and weighs barely 116g, which is almost half of iPhone XS Max (208g), is fitting easily into the hand. The Osmo Pocket is the smallest 3-axis stabilized handheld camera DJI has ever designed, and actually the smallest mechanical gimbal available on the market.
With the design of 3-axis gimbal, DJI declaims that their new product is designed to improve optical image stabilization and turn any moment into a cinematic memory.
The camera uses 1/2.3-inch sensor and can capture 4K video at up to 60 frames per second at 100Mbps. Under the FPV mode, it will unlock the roll axis to make user's footage look as if it came from a traditional camera and shoot more dynamic pictures or videos at 4K resolution. Osmo Pocket still offers some advanced shooting modes like face tracking, active tracking, automatic super wide angle, and tracking delay.
DJI has designed Mimo app for Android and iOS. In the coming edition, Story Mode, which integrates and presets multiple professional-quality video clip patterns and camera motions, allows users to edit their videos and control all of its functionality and features using the smartphone.
Now, Osmo Pocket is available for purchase at the price of USD 399 (RMB 2499) and ships from December 15. Known for making drone aircraft, DJI once told the media that 2018 was going to be a big year for the Chinese drone maker.
