Chinese car manufacturing giant BYD sustained an upward momentum with its vehicle sales growing by 2.4% year-on-year to 36,872 units, according to an announcement the company released on September 7.
The year-on-year increase should be credited in a large part to the sales growth achieved by the traditional combustion vehicle units. In August, the sales volume of these vehicles rose 11.45% from a year earlier to 21,499 units, thanks to the 92.71% and 6.75% increases in sedan and SUV sales respectively. However, MPV sales still fell 17.57% from a year earlier.
BYD saw its new energy vehicle (NEV) sales drop 8.59% year-on-year to 15,283 units, but edge up 1.21% compared to July 2020. Of those, PV sales reached 14,009 units, down 12.99% year-on-year, including 9,414 BEVs, down 14.46% year-on-year and 4,595 PHEVs, also down 9.81% year-on-year.
Notably, the PHEV sales surged 37.62% from the previous month, which directly resulted in the month-on-month growth in total new energy PV sales.
