On December 9-11, 2020, EqualOcean will host this year's World Innovators Meet (WIM). The birth of the transistor in 1947 launched the era of microelectronics. The development of Silicon-based integrated circuit in 1958 established the foundation for the third revolution of science and technology.
The semiconductor was born at just the right time.
Even a slight change in the classic build of the semiconductor could affect our age. No matter whether we consider each iteration of product or each part of the industrial chain, the semiconductor industry has integrated high technology into various areas and different epochs.
At the same time, semiconductors are used in crucial elements mature and emerging, such as the Internet, the Internet of Things, connected cars, fifth-generation connectivity and so on. All these elements support emerging next-level computing intelligence and industrial informatization.
The semiconductor industry is complementary to other industries which affect the whole world – therefore it is worth making joint efforts toward global development.
The rapid development of information technology such as Big Data, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence has continuously provided market demand for semiconductor industry while driven its innovated developing.
According to World Semiconductor Trade Statistics, in 2017, the global semiconductor market exceeded USD 400 billion for the first time and reached USD 468.8 billion in 2018, an increase of 13.7% year-on-year.
In 2019, the growth of major application equipment such as smart phones, servers and personal computers slowed down, affecting the global semiconductor market sales, which fell 11.9% year-on-year to USD 418.3 billion.
In 2020,there are at least four variables influenced the semiconductor industry :the crisis of supply chains disrupted by COVID-19 ,the increasing geopolitical tensions, the intense struggle of IP dominance among leading powers – and last but not least the thread of quantum technology application. At the end of 2019, we dreamed that semiconductor industry may recover in 2020. With all the change and uncertainty, it seems that we may not get one.
We need some “game-changers” to break monopoly and have positive impact on this industry. They may not be giants that have been in control of the market for decades. They are companies providing new ideas, new models and even more new technology. They can be some influential start-up companies at any position in the semiconductor industry chain which may be not bounding by traditional models and can always embrace change.
What EqualOcean is doing now is to find these game-changers.
On August 28, 2020, the WIM Organizing Committee officially announced that this year’s World Innovators Meet (WIM) will be held from December 9th to 11th. On the basis of the successful holding of WIM2019, WIM2020 will take a bolder globalization step and will be held online simultaneously in many representative countries and regions of scientific and technological innovation around the world.
In the three consecutive days from December 9-11, we will open the chapter of science and technology innovation to drive value investment. At that time, WIM2020 will publish its ‘Next 50 Global Tech: Semiconductor’ ranking list and its related report.
The companies can be on the list include but are not limited to fabless semiconductor companies ，semiconductor foundry，companies which develop the material or equipment for semiconductor, companies offering the service of semiconductor packaging and testing. What the companies are studying or selling include but are not limited to chips for calculating such as GPU/CPU/SoC/FPGA/MCU and so on , or sensor for all use, or chips for transmitting such as NB-IOT/Wireless Chip/Bluetooth Chip and so on, or chips for energy supply.
A main selection criterion of this list is whether to provide a force for innovation in the semiconductor chip industry, which means we pick companies that have or will have innovation results under certain restrictions on conditions such as the establishment time, the establishment of a team, the attention of the primary market, the market valuation and the potential.
