A Chinese self-driving car tech company, Auto X, has launched a completely autonomous car model called RoboTaxi.

On January 28, AutoX officially announced that its vehicles have exceeded 1,000 square kilometers of self-driving range while preparing to expand its RoboTaxi service soon.

The company has been conducting self-driving road tests in four major cities in Northern China, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, with a total area of more than 1,000 square kilometers.

The company's autonomous car model fits all types of toads, including city and village roads, covering a wide range of complex road conditions. The point-to-point autonomous driving area marks RoboTaxi's improvement toward real-world applications and its ability to provide self-driving mobility services in first-tier cities.

It is worth noting that AutoX is the first self-driving tech company in China that receives a California-issued DMV fully unmanned operating license. It is also the first company to launch fully unmanned testing on open roads in first-tier cities.

In December 2021, AutoX disclosed that its factory has the capacity of mass-producing fully unmanned vehicles. "For RoboTaxi, it needs to ensure three prerequisites: fully unmanned capability, large coverage area, and high access, with streets and alleys accessible to meet normal travel needs," said the company's spokesman.

So far, AutoX has been operating fully unmanned RoboTaxi for more than a year, and the company will continue to invest in R&D, with five major R&D centers in North China, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Silicon Valley. The company will also increase its efforts to recruit technical talents.

The RoboTaxi market is expected to reach USD 38.61 billion by 2030. As driverless technology continues to progress, the ability to land real scenarios will become an important indicator of auto companies regarding their competitiveness and continue to drive their positive development.
