Chinese leading global electric vehicle maker BYD officially announced that the company will launch two pure EV models in April 2022.
BYD
China's NV manufacturer, BYD, is a company that focuses on zero-emission vehicle production with a broad range of battery-electric, hybrid electric, and internal combustion passenger vehicles. Recently, it is expected that BYD will launch two new models, BYD Tang 2022 and BYD Seal.
As a mid-size SUV, BYD Tang is designed in fully electric versions in China. Last year, the vehicle sales of this model increased 47.5% compared to the previous year and sold more than 54,000 vehicles. In April this year, the company has decided to release a new 2022 version to pair with the previous sales success.
Moreover, another 2022 new version will display on BYD Seal as also a medium-sized electric sedan based on the design of Ocean-X. In September 2021, BYD launches e-platform 3.0 with the new concept car Ocean-X, a mid-size sporty sedan with optimized performance.
BYD Seal has a streamlined bonnet and an aerodynamic shape that equips with an LFP battery. The announcement of a new version will stir up a competition between BYD and Tesla in response to Tesla's Model 3. Recently, Model 3’s sales price rose to CNY 280,000 compared to CNY 235,900 in July 2021.
More EV manufacturers have joined in the fierce competition. At the beginning of this year, the car sales of Tesla's Model 3 were only 4,607 units, down 66.3% year-on-year. In January 2022, BYD surpassed Tesla in car sales of the global EV market. Among the top 10 global new energy vehicle sales in January, BYD had four listed models, including PLUS DM-I, PLUS DM-I, and two pure electric models.
In February, BYD’s car sales in China reached 90,000 units, a 336.2% increase year on year. Specifically, the company's sales of new energy vehicles reached 87,000 units, with a potential continuing to grow in the future.
