EqualOcean has learned that on August 22 , Shenzhen Jiana Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Jiana Energy" or "珈钠能源") announced the completion of its Series A financing. The main investor in this round of financing is Primavera Capital(春华资本), and existing shareholder Shunwei Capital(顺为资本) has also increased its investment.
Founded in April 2022, Jiana Energy is focused on researching, developing, manufacturing, and selling high-security, long-life, and cost-effective sodium-ion batteries. As a comprehensive solution provider for sodium-ion batteries, Jiana Energy offers a full range of solutions, from cathodes, anodes, electrolytes, auxiliary materials to battery processes. Their high-performance sodium-ion battery materials and energy storage system products have gained recognition from top-tier customers.
Jiana Energy holds over 50 invention patents and is one of the few companies in China with core competitiveness in the sodium-ion battery field. The company has gathered a group of renowned experts and engineering technicians in materials science, electrochemistry, and battery technology. The founder and chief scientist of the company is Professor Cao Yuliang from the College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences at Wuhan University, who has extensive theoretical knowledge and research experience in sodium-ion batteries. Dr. Fan Haiman, the General Manager, has 17 years of experience in the new energy industry, strong technical expertise, rich management knowledge, deep insights into technology, and comprehensive management experience in two publicly listed lithium battery companies. Furthermore, the company holds more than 40 intellectual property rights as the first inventor.
According to data released by global research firm BIS Research, the global sodium-ion battery market was approximately $528 million in 2021 and increased to about USD 549 million in 2022. The Asia-Pacific region has become the largest market for sodium-ion battery-related products due to the rapid growth of the new energy market.
Sodium-ion batteries have a wide range of applications, including energy storage for solar and wind energy, smart grids (generation and user sides), residential energy storage, commercial energy storage, low-speed electric vehicles, and two-wheelers.
According to incomplete statistics, current companies in China involved in sodium-ion battery development and related technologies mainly include Hina Battery(中科海钠), Genesis Energy(创新能源), CATL(宁德时代), Sunwoda Electronic(欣旺达), Hua Yang Group New Energy(华阳股份), Sacred Sun Power Sources(圣阳股份), Dowstone Technology(道氏技术), Baichuan Chemical Industrial(百川股份), Zhangqiu Blower(山东章鼓), and GEM(格林美).
Jiana Technology stated that they plan to start building a production line with a capacity of tens of thousands of tons by the end of 2023 and achieve over CNY one billion in revenue in 2024, becoming a benchmark enterprise in the sodium-ion battery field.
The funds from this round of financing for Jiana Energy will be used to expand production capacity, hire additional personnel, build battery test lines, and establish research institutes.
