EqualOcean News, Research firm Counterpoint has announced the global smartphone AP/SoC chip market share for the second quarter of 2023, shown in terms of the number of shipments and shipment value. In terms of volume, MediaTek still maintains its market leadership, while Unisoc is the fastest-growing chip company quarter over quarter this year. Its global market share reached 15%.

In terms of shipment volume, MediaTek accounted for 30% and Qualcomm for 29%. MediaTek's shipments increased slightly in the second quarter due to a decrease in inventory and an increase in shipments of its newly launched Tenguet 6000 and 7000 chips. Qualcomm, on the other hand, saw significant year-over-year growth in the quarter with high shipments of its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen2. Apple ranked third with 19%, Unisoc ranked fourth with 15% and Samsung ranked fifth with 7%.
According to the agency's analysis, Unisoc's shipments will experience rapid growth in the second quarter of 2023, and in the second half of 2023, as the penetration rate of entry-level 5G smartphones increases in Latin America, Southeast Asia, Central and Eastern Africa, and Europe, Unisoc is expected to gain some market share in these regions as well.
From the perspective of market revenue, Qualcomm accounted for 40% of the first place, mainly due to the flagship chip shipments increased sharply, as well as the release of Chinese brands, Samsung folding screen new machine; Apple accounted for 33%, but decreased by 34% over the previous year, it is affected by seasonal factors; MediaTek revenue accounted for a decline to 16%, the agency analyzed that it is due to the low demand in China's market.

In the field of consumer electronics, Spreadtrum's 5G core has been adopted by branded mobile phones such as ZTE, Nubia, China Telecom, Hisense, etc. and sold in the global market; meanwhile, Unisoc has joined hands with its partners to open up innovative categories such as 5G learning machines, smart glasses, commercial robots, etc., which are not limited to a single mobile phone market. Furthermore, in the field of industrial electronics, Spreadtrum's 5G solutions have been commercially realized in verticals such as smart power, smart parks, smart mining, smart healthcare, smart manufacturing, financial payments, sharing economy and industrial IoT. IoT modules and CPEs equipped with Zhanrui's 5G chips have passed CE, GCF, FCC and other overseas certifications, and have realized mature mass production and global shipment.
