Exploring Uncharted Territories in the Middle East: The Innovators Going Global

From September 2nd to 6th, the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) was held in Beijing. During this event, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and the China International Chamber of Commerce jointly released the "Path to Corporate Low-Carbon Transformation: Sustainable Development Actions of Enterprises in China 2022/2023" research report.
junlebao
Junlebao, as the only Chinese dairy company selected, was included in the report due to its innovative practices in low-carbon management along the value chain and other areas.
The report showcases Junlebao's collaborative efforts with value chain partners in implementing a low-carbon transformation model. It analyzes Junlebao's cooperation with local farmers in implementing the "family farm" model and highlights Junlebao's efforts to enhance the information management of these "family farms," thereby improving the carbon emission reduction capabilities across the entire product lifecycle.
In terms of the industry chain, Junlebao has conceived the idea of "integrating the primary, secondary, and tertiary industries" to form an ecological circular industry chain that involves "field planting, grass feeding for cattle, milk production, and returning manure to the fields, along with biogas power generation."
The company collects and processes the manure generated by the cows, recycling it within the ecosystem. In just one ranch with 10,000 cows, more than 10 million kilowatt-hours of electricity can be generated annually through biogas power generation.
Additionally, Junlebao has initiated distributed photovoltaic power generation projects to establish green factories. It is projected that by 2024, over 20% of Junlebao's factory electricity will switch to clean energy sources.
In terms of production methods, Junlebao has innovated a "full-industry-chain integration" production model. At Infant Formula Factory in Zhangjiakou, they have implemented a direct transfer of materials to the processing stage through low-temperature, clean pipelines, minimizing fuel consumption and carbon emissions in the logistics and transportation process. This approach enables carbon reduction right from the source of production.
In achieving low-carbon agriculture, increasing the milk yield per cow while reducing the number of cows has resulted in decreased greenhouse gas emissions for equivalent milk output. Currently, Junlebao has breeding institutions such as a bull stud farm, core breeding farms, and an embryo transfer demonstration farm. A laboratory with an annual capacity of 50,000 embryos is also in operation, with 13 outstanding breeding bulls ranking among the top 200 globally.
At the value chain level, Junlebao starts with key areas such as research and development management, procurement management, production management, marketing management, and operational management to practice the concept of green development together with global suppliers.
