Chinese consumer tech giant Anker Innovations (300866:SZ) has reportedly entered the burgeoning realm of humanoid intelligent robotics, marking a strategic move into a dynamic industry gaining significant traction. Confidential sources have revealed the company's active involvement in research and development within this cutting-edge field.
Contrary to its previous stance in August, where Anker dismissed any plans related to humanoid intelligent robotics in an investor Q&A community, recent developments suggest a shift in strategy. As of the press time, Anker's stock closed at CNY 85.35 apiece, boasting a market capitalization of CNY 34.82 billion.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued "Guidance Opinions on the Innovative Development of Humanoid Robots," outlining ambitious objectives to establish a preliminary innovative system for humanoid robots by 2025. The initiative aims to drive substantial advancements in humanoid robot technological innovation by 2027, fostering a globally competitive industry ecosystem with capabilities reaching world-class standards.
A representative from the Ministry's Technology Department emphasized that humanoid robots, integrating advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, high-end manufacturing, and new materials, have the potential to become a disruptive or transformative product comparable to computers, smartphones, and new energy vehicles.
In related developments, Shenzhen-headquartered UBTECH Robotics, slated earlier this month to go public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange main board, is poised to become the first publicly traded company specializing in humanoid robots. A Sullivan report reveals UBTECH's strong financial performance, with revenues of CNY 10.08 billion in 2022, maintaining an impressive year-on-year increase of 23.4%.
DREAME, a key player in the field, also unveiled its versatile humanoid robot capable of latte art at the 2023 World Robot Conference. Beyond humanoid robots, DREAME introduced a diverse robot family, spanning consumer-grade bio-inspired quadrupeds, industrial-grade quadrupeds, wireless pool cleaning robots, commercial meal delivery robots, and robotic vacuum cleaners.
Notable companies like Xiaomi (1810:HK), AGIBOT, Dataa Robotics (Chinese: 达闼), and Fourier Intelligence are also making significant strides in the humanoid robotics field. Additionally, emerging startups such as Beijing-based Booster Robotics (Chinese: 加速前进) have recently secured multimillion-yuan angel funding, underscoring the growing interest and investment in this promising sector.
Humanoid robots are finding extensive applications across diverse sectors, including medical rehabilitation, logistics, and automotive manufacturing. As these advancements continue, humanoid robots are poised to play a pivotal role in the future of technology and artificial intelligence, offering investors compelling opportunities to engage in the forefront of technological development.
