Ant Group plans to introduce its popular cross-border payment service Alipay+ to the Indonesian market, Ant Group International Business Group CEO Yang Peng reportedly said today. The company is currently working under the guidance of Indonesia's central bank and with local partners so that it can quickly launch the service in Indonesia. In this regard, Yang Peng said he hopes to launch Alipay+ in Indonesia this year officially.
It is reported that Ant International has reached cooperation with Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Information, and its financial technology has been adopted by several technology companies providing digital financial and banking services in Indonesia, such as Dana, Bank Mandiri, Gojek, etc. In this regard, Yang Peng said, "We can enable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to better go to the use of digital payment technology, smoother completion of the cross-border collections, while also protecting personal data privacy and solving fraud issues that arise in the age of AI," and that "the Joint Lab can be a guarantee to help them operate better in this digital marketplace."
In addition, the establishment of the Joint Lab is also an important step for Ant International to enter the Indonesian market. In addition to the joint labs expected to be inaugurated in Jakarta (located on the northwestern coast of Java) and Yogyakarta (a city in south-central Java), there are two other forms of cooperation agreed upon with Ant, including the Digital Talent Scholarships and the Digital Talent Academy, according to Indonesia's Minister of Communications and Information, Budi Ali Setiadi.
Launched in 2020, Alipay+ provides global merchants and e-wallets with services and technology tools that enable them to offer users the ability to make payments in overseas markets using local e-wallets.
It is understood that Alipay+ is a global cross-border payment technology and digital marketing solution launched by Ant Group in 2020 based on Alipay's many years of technology and experience, which can help global e-wallets realize cross-border payments, not only facilitating users to pay with their commonly used e-wallets but also making it convenient for merchants to bring together multiple e-wallets to collect payments. It is worth mentioning that Alipay+ is not an overseas version of Alipay, nor is it just a simple payment application, but a technology and tool that provides services to merchants and e-wallets worldwide.
In 2007, Alipay launched its globalization business, joining hands with global payment and financial institutions to open up online payment channels around the world. 2015 onwards, Ant has built more than 9 local wallets in more than 9 countries and regions in Asia, such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Hong Kong and other countries and regions, in conjunction with local partners to adapt to local conditions.
Most of these local "Alipay" wallets have grown to become the largest e-wallets in the region, and have become the preferred and commonly used digital payment method for locals, leading the digital life in Asia. In 2020, Ant Group launched Alipay+ global cross-border mobile payment solution, which has covered more than 1 million offline merchants and accessed Korea's offline merchants. offline merchants, accessing more than 10 Asian e-wallets such as Kakaopay in South Korea, GCash in the Philippines and AlipayHK in Hong Kong, China.
