EqualOcean has learned that COSCO Shipping Holdings' Mexico Express Service (WSA5) has successfully completed its maiden voyage, with the container vessel "New Dalian" smoothly docking at the Port of Ensenada, Mexico. This marks a significant milestone, providing a new and convenient route for trade across the Pacific Ocean.

China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited (COSCO Shipping), established in 2016 through the merger of China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company and China Shipping (Group) Company, is one of the world's largest integrated shipping enterprises. Headquartered in Shanghai, China, COSCO Shipping's business spans multiple sectors, including container shipping, bulk shipping, tanker shipping, port terminal operations, logistics services, shipbuilding and repair, financial services, and shipping leasing. The company boasts one of the world's largest fleets, with over 1,300 vessels and a total carrying capacity exceeding 110 million deadweight tons. COSCO Shipping operates in over 200 ports globally, covering more than 160 countries and regions, establishing a comprehensive global shipping network. Additionally, through ownership, partnerships, and collaborations, COSCO Shipping operates several key ports and terminals worldwide, further enhancing its global supply chain service capabilities.

In recent years, as market openness and activity have increased, Mexico has attracted a growing number of global businesses and investments. Data shows that in the first four months of 2024, the total throughput of Mexican ports increased by 18.2% year-on-year. Particularly, Mexico's nine Pacific coast ports handled most of the container traffic, with a year-on-year increase of 19%. This demonstrates the significant economic cooperation potential between Asia and Mexico.

COSCO Shipping Holdings, committed to building a world-class container digital supply chain ecosystem centered on customer needs, has actively optimized and expanded its service network in the Mexican market by enhancing route capacity and developing multimodal transport and supply chain systems. Currently, COSCO Shipping Holdings operates 12 container shipping routes to Mexico, with a total capacity exceeding 220,000 TEUs. The newly launched Mexico Express Service offers 3,000-5,000 TEU standard container slots per trip, providing faster delivery times and ample weekly capacity. This service efficiently connects Mexican Pacific ports such as Ensenada, Manzanillo, and Lázaro Cárdenas with major Far East ports like Busan, Dalian, Ningbo, Shanghai, and Qingdao. By leveraging seamless links with sea-rail and sea-land extended services, COSCO Shipping Holdings offers global customers a reliable, stable, and more competitive "container shipping + port + related logistics" end-to-end supply chain solution.

EqualOcean also reports that on the same day, COSCO Shipping signed three memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Hisense and Hutchison Ports for the Hisense Monterrey Factory Warehousing Project, Hutchison Ports Ensenada Yard Project, and Hisense Tijuana Factory In-Plant Logistics Project. These initiatives aim to promote fully digitalized supply chain cooperation, further strengthening the integration with customer supply chains, thus opening a new chapter in COSCO Shipping's business development in Mexico.
