On December 4th, GAC Group officially established an office in São Paulo, Brazil, marking the company’s formal entry into the Brazilian market and the beginning of its expansion into Latin America. This move is a key component of GAC Group's global strategy, aimed at driving business growth in Latin America through investments and partnerships in Brazil. The company also announced plans to invest 5.8 billion reais (approximately USD 1 billion) in Brazil over the next five years, with 120 million reais allocated to support local education and research projects, particularly those focused on advancing the automotive industry and related technologies.
At the subsequent event, GAC Group signed cooperation agreements with three major Brazilian universities: the Federal University of Santa Catarina, the Federal University of Santa Maria, and the State University of Campinas. These collaborations will focus on education and research projects in the fields of automotive, engines, and components, with the goal of nurturing professional talent in both China and Brazil, while also providing internship opportunities for students. Wei Haigang, International General Manager of GAC Group, stated that the company’s goal is not only to produce vehicles but also to drive the upgrading and localization of the automotive industry in Brazil and throughout Latin America.
To achieve this goal, GAC Group plans to establish a local production base in Brazil and accelerate the process through methods such as acquiring existing factories. Although the specific location for the factory has not yet been confirmed, GAC has announced that it will begin exporting several models to the Brazilian market in 2025, including the compact electric vehicle Aion and sports utility vehicles. Wei Haigang emphasized that the company will adopt a localized production strategy to ensure quick responses to the demands of the Brazilian market, offering electric, ethanol hybrid, and internal combustion engine vehicles tailored to local consumers. In the initial phase, GAC plans to set up 30 dealerships, gradually expanding to 50, ensuring coverage of major markets across Brazil. Through these efforts, GAC Group aims to establish a strong presence in the Brazilian and Latin American markets in the coming years, making significant strides in its global development.
