Robobus

On January 26, WeRide (文远知行) officially launched the commercial operation of its autonomous shuttle, Robobus, in Leuven, Belgium. The vehicle has been integrated into Route 16 of local public transport operator De Lijn, enabling passengers to purchase e-tickets via SMS or the De Lijn app.

WeRide (文远知行) stated that this marks Europe’s first commercial deployment of autonomous vehicles in a city-center environment with complex mixed traffic.

The project began testing in Leuven in September 2025 and received approval for public operation after completing route adaptation and required mileage accumulation. The initiative is jointly developed by WeRide (文远知行), De Lijn, mobility consultancy Espaces-Mobilités, and multiple local government authorities, with support from EIT Urban Mobility, and is designed as a long-term program expected to operate through at least 2027.
