On February 13, NavInfo (Chinese: 四维图新) announced that it has signed a license agreement with BMW Group to provide ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) maps, HD (High Definition) maps and LBS (Location-Based Services) and other products and services for BMW's next-generation autonomous driving functions in the Chinese market.
It is reported that the specific amount of the order will depend on the number of BMW vehicles equipped with assisted automatic driving functions in the Chinese market. The cooperation between the two companies, on the one hand, will help BMW accelerate the mass production of high-end automatic driving functions; on the other hand, BMW's orders are expected to get more projects for NavInfo.
The cooperation in smart driving between BMW and NavInfo has a long history. In early 2019, the two companies signed a license agreement for autonomous driving maps and related services, under which NavInfo will provide autonomous driving map products and services for L3 and above autonomous driving systems for BMW's new platforms which will be mass-produced and launched in China from 2021 to 2024. NavInfo and BMW have maintained a close partnership from the earliest commercial map data to adding charging piles, 3D data, and maps supporting ADAS-related functional applications.
In the mass production stage of intelligent connected vehicles, the scale of automobile-related data is increasing day by day. In addition to the value of hardware in the traditional automobile industry, the value of software, including data, is rising to an increasingly important position. Auto companies' demand for scenario-based, integrated and customized intelligent network solutions is gradually revealed. In order to meet the more diversified needs of the market, automotive intelligent enterprises and OEMs cooperate with each other, hoping to continuously improve the end-user experience with high-quality and innovative products and services.
