Munich becomes a strategic location for Chinese new energy vehicle brands
On March 14, it was reported that Xiaomi Automobile, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chinese technology company Xiaomi Corporation, established a research and development center in Munich, Germany. It has also assembled a "supercar team" led by Ricard, a former aerodynamics expert from Ferrari, and Rudolf, a senior engineer formerly with BMW, aiming at the European high-end market.
Two months ago, Ricard officially joined Xiaomi Automobile as the Chief Aerodynamics Engineer. He boasts a profound academic background in the field of aerodynamics and nearly 20 years of rich practical experience on race tracks.
Five months ago, Rudolf also made an official announcement that he had become the head of Xiaomi's European center. While clarifying his new position, he also disclosed that Xiaomi Automobile' R&D center would be located in Munich.
Lu Weibing, a partner and president of Xiaomi Corporation, said at the 2025 Mobile World Congress (MWC 2025) held in March this year that the company hopes to push Xiaomi cars onto the global market by 2027. All the above actions fully indicate that Xiaomi Automobile is accelerating its overseas expansion.
Xiaomi Automobile has launched the SU7 series models in the Chinese market, including the SU7, SU7 Pro, SU7 Max, and SU7 Ultra, with the price range covering from CNY 260,000-270,000 to over CNY 500,000. Currently, Xiaomi Automobile has cumulatively delivered more than 190,000 vehicles, and it is expected that the 200,000th vehicle will roll off the production line soon.
