Momenta has entered into a strategic partnership with Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing and everyday services platform, and has received strategic investment from Grab.

Autonomous driving

The two companies will jointly promote the deployment of autonomous driving technologies in Southeast Asia, with a focus on accelerating the delivery of safe and reliable autonomous driving services in densely populated and complex urban environments, supporting the future transformation of mobility in the region.

Momenta has consistently pursued its “one flywheel, two legs” strategy, leveraging a data-driven flywheel to enable efficient coordination and rapid iteration between L2 advanced driver assistance systems and L4 autonomous driving. On one hand, Momenta works closely with leading global automakers, including Mercedes-Benz and BMW, providing advanced driver assistance systems built on its flywheel-based large model for mass-production vehicles. On the other hand, the company continues to advance its Robotaxi technology and is steadily moving toward the next stage of commercial fleet operations.

Compared with conventional Robotaxi solutions in the industry, Momenta deploys Robotaxi services by reusing mass-production vehicles. Its L2 and L4 systems share a unified software algorithm architecture and sensor configuration, allowing L4 autonomous driving capabilities to be directly integrated into production vehicles. This integrated solution eliminates the need for costly post-production retrofitting. This “mass production–driven L4” approach significantly reduces operating costs and lays a solid foundation for the large-scale adoption of autonomous driving services.

Building on this strategy, the partnership between Momenta and Grab will explore the introduction of autonomous driving technologies into the Southeast Asian market, with safety positioned at the core of the collaboration. The cooperation creates favorable conditions for both parties to explore viable pathways for deploying autonomous driving services in the region.

Momenta CEO Cao Xudong said: “Grab is the most influential mobility platform in Southeast Asia, and we are delighted to work together to bring Momenta’s technology and experience to this dynamic region. Our goal is to make safe and comfortable autonomous driving experiences a part of everyday life for users across different markets worldwide, just like mobile networks today.”

Dominic Ong, Head of Autonomous Driving at Grab, commented: “We are pleased to partner with Momenta to help shape the future of mobility in Southeast Asia. Momenta’s strong technological capabilities expand the boundaries of how we explore future mobility solutions. This collaboration is critical for us, as it will enable Grab to thoroughly test a diverse range of autonomous driving scenarios and ultimately identify the best way to safely integrate this next-generation technology into everyday transportation.”

In addition, in May this year, Momenta also established a strategic partnership with Uber, the world’s largest mobility service platform, to jointly explore the application of advanced autonomous driving technologies within future shared mobility networks. The two companies expect to officially launch operations in Munich, Germany, in 2026.

From leading European automakers, to North American mobility platforms, and now to Southeast Asia’s super app ecosystem, Momenta’s global partner network continues to expand steadily. The company looks forward to working with partners worldwide to drive continuous innovation, empower future mobility, and move toward an era in which autonomous driving is accessible to all.
