Chery Group(奇瑞) said it exported 202,533 vehicles in July 2026, up 70.1% year on year, marking the fifth consecutive month in which the Anhui-based automaker set a monthly export record among Chinese carmakers.

The result was Chery’s first month with exports above 200,000 vehicles, according to the company. It follows exports of 191,062 vehicles in June, when Chery became the first Chinese automaker to exceed 190,000 overseas shipments in a single month.

Chery sold 276,820 vehicles in total in July, up 23.3% from a year earlier. New-energy vehicle sales reached 129,067 units, up 97.5% year on year and a monthly high for the group.

For the first seven months of 2026, Chery reported cumulative sales of 1,634,353 vehicles, up 10.1% from a year earlier. The group’s export performance has been a major contributor to that growth.

Founded in Wuhu in 1997, Chery has built one of the longest-established overseas operations among Chinese automakers. Its portfolio includes the CHERY, EXEED, JETOUR and iCAUR brands, alongside other businesses within the group. The company sells through overseas distribution, service and manufacturing networks and has increasingly described globalization as a central business strategy.

China became the world’s largest automobile exporter in 2023, overtaking Japan. Chinese manufacturers have since expanded exports of conventional vehicles, hybrids and battery-electric models across Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe.

Chery’s July result illustrates the scale that individual Chinese manufacturers are beginning to achieve overseas. However, export figures measure vehicles shipped abroad, rather than retail registrations, end-customer demand or profitability in individual markets. Those measures will be more important in assessing whether the growth can be sustained.

The next test for Chery and other Chinese automakers will be to convert shipment growth into durable local operations: competitive products, reliable after-sales service, regulatory compliance and, where commercially justified, local production and supply chains.
