Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on Aug. 11 that it will hold a dedicated State of Play presentation for Chinese action role-playing game Phantom Blade Zero (《影之刃零》) on Aug. 18. The 15-to-20-minute broadcast will focus entirely on the game, marking the first time Sony has organized a standalone State of Play showcase for a Chinese-developed title.

Phantom Blade Zero

Developed by Beijing-based S-GAME (灵游坊), Phantom Blade Zero is a wuxia-inspired action game planned for PlayStation 5 and PC. The title combines Chinese martial-arts aesthetics with fast-paced combat and high-end visual production, positioning it for the international premium-game market rather than the mobile and free-to-play segments traditionally associated with Chinese publishers overseas.

State of Play is one of PlayStation’s main global marketing channels for new games and product announcements. A dedicated presentation gives Phantom Blade Zero greater exposure among console players and places it alongside major international titles that have previously received individual showcases from Sony.

The event reflects the growing presence of Chinese-developed games on global console platforms. Following the international success of several premium Chinese titles, overseas competition is expanding from mobile publishing into AAA development, console distribution and original intellectual property. Sony’s promotional support suggests that Chinese games are increasingly being treated as globally significant releases rather than regionally focused products.

For S-GAME, the presentation is an opportunity to demonstrate gameplay quality and build international demand ahead of release. More broadly, it shows that China’s game exports are moving beyond user acquisition and publishing scale toward higher production values, stronger original IP and closer integration with the global console ecosystem.
