Chinese animated feature All Wishes Come True(《八仙!》) held its Kuala Lumpur premiere on Aug. 24 and opened nationwide in Malaysia on Aug. 27.

All Wishes Come True

Malaysia’s GSC cinema chain lists the Mandarin-language film under its official English release title, All Wishes Come True, with Malay, Chinese and English subtitles. The animated fantasy comedy follows eight ordinary people who eventually become the Eight Immortals, drawing on the traditional Chinese legend of the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea.

China Central Television reported that the film was scheduled to open in more than 110 Malaysian cinemas, with more than 600 daily screenings. Those figures describe the announced release footprint and screening allocation; they do not by themselves establish ticket sales, attendance levels or box-office performance.

The Kuala Lumpur premiere drew local moviegoers, according to CCTV coverage. In Fiji, the film has also opened at two cinemas in the capital Suva. Its wider overseas rollout began earlier in August, with releases in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji on Aug. 13, followed by the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands on Aug. 14.

The Malaysian opening gives the film a formal theatrical route in Southeast Asia rather than a limited festival screening. It also shows the use of localized distribution and multilingual subtitles to make a Chinese mythology-based story accessible to regional audiences.

However, the currently available reports do not provide independently verifiable overseas box office, attendance, repeat-viewing or audience-survey data. Nor is there evidence explaining why the English-language title was chosen over a literal rendering of Ba Xian or “The Eight Immortals.” Those claims should therefore not be added to the story.

The next indicators of the film’s overseas performance will be local box-office results, cinema retention after the opening week, additional territory agreements and evidence of audience reception beyond premiere coverage.
