Baidu(百度)said on September 21 that its overseas AI office platform Kooko had surpassed 10 million users within a year of launch, reaching nearly 200 countries and regions. Announced at the company’s AI Day, the milestone accompanied a rebranding of the product previously known as Oreate AI and a broader push by Baidu’s Wenku and Netdisk businesses into international productivity software.

The company separately reported more than 40 million global monthly active users for its broader AI office offering, known in Chinese as 库库AI. The two figures measure different things: Baidu did not identify the overseas total as monthly active users or disclose how many were paying customers.

Launched in 2025, Oreate AI adopted a general-purpose agent architecture in May 2026 before being renamed Kooko in September, alongside the introduction of desktop and mobile applications. The chronology places the user milestone within the product’s first year, rather than a year after its rebranding.

According to Baidu, Kooko brings research, analysis and content production into a single workspace. It can work with public information and user-authorized materials to produce documents, presentations, spreadsheets and code, with further editing available through an Office editor. The company also describes persistent memory features that retain preferences, revisions and project context for subsequent tasks.

The overseas product extends capabilities developed around Baidu’s document and cloud-storage businesses. Baidu says localization combines shared capabilities—including memory, specialist skills and connections between local and cloud files—with tools and working practices relevant to individual markets. However, the scale of the company’s Chinese knowledge and document resources does not establish that the same content is available or licensed for overseas use.

For Baidu, Kooko offers a route to international users through everyday work such as preparing presentations, conducting research and producing marketing materials. The potential advantage is reducing the effort involved in moving information between separate search, storage, editing and AI tools. Whether that advantage holds depends on the quality of the finished work and how reliably the product fits existing workflows.

The reported user footprint indicates broad reach, but provides limited evidence of commercial traction. Overseas active usage, retention, paid conversion and revenue were not disclosed in the cited announcement. Those measures will be more revealing than geographic coverage alone in determining whether Baidu can turn an international launch into a sustained productivity-software business.
