Geely Auto, the passenger-vehicle brand of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (浙江吉利控股集团), announced on October 9 that it is entering Canada, where it plans to introduce its first vehicles in 2027. The company has a Canadian team in place and is developing a retail and service network with local partners, but has not yet named models, dealers, prices or specific launch dates.

Managing Director Bryan Wu described the move as a long-term commitment. Geely Auto Canada said it would release further details as it approaches commercial launch next year. The company has launched a Canadian website as its information channel. The entry is for the Geely Auto nameplate; other brands in the wider Geely Holding portfolio, including Volvo Cars, Polestar and Lotus, already operate in Canada under their own brands.
Geely Auto Group sold 3.02 million vehicles worldwide in 2025, including 1.69 million new-energy vehicles. In the first nine months of 2026, the group sold 2.24 million vehicles and exported 797,670, up 169% year on year. New-energy vehicle exports reached 484,086 over the same period. These figures cover the group’s brands and do not represent Geely Auto Canada sales, which have yet to begin.
Canada’s trade policy has reopened a limited route for Chinese-made electric vehicles. Under a bilateral arrangement announced in January, Canada allows up to 49,000 China-origin EV imports in the first year at a 6.1% most-favoured-nation tariff rate. The quota runs from March 1, 2026, through February 28, 2027. As of October 9, 15,931 vehicles had been counted against it, leaving 33,069. Geely has not said whether its first Canadian models will be fully electric or whether they will use this quota.
The entry gives Geely a foothold in a market where access for China-made EVs is governed by both a tariff rate and an annual import cap. Building a dealer and service network before launch will be central to converting that access into sales. The company’s next steps—model selection, pricing, distribution and delivery timing—will show how it plans to compete in Canada’s established auto market.
