Which Way Is the Wind Blowing? How to Balance Geopolitics and Heavy Capex Investment

AutoFlight(峰飞航空)said on October 15 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Singapore-based JC Aviation covering the planned procurement of 260 electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft and 10 SUNSHIP water-based platforms. The cooperation initially targets India and Brazil, combining aircraft procurement with certification, training and local operating support.

The proposed fleet spans AutoFlight’s V2000CG CarryAll cargo aircraft, V2000CGF firefighting variant and V2000EM Prosperity passenger aircraft, with procurement planned between 2026 and 2031. The SUNSHIP platforms are scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2029.
AutoFlight said the MoU includes an initial confirmed commitment to order two V2000CG aircraft and one SUNSHIP. The broader procurement remains subject to subsequent purchase agreements, distinguishing the headline fleet plan from confirmed aircraft sales.
JC Aviation forms part of the aviation business under Singapore-based Makrana Holdings. According to AutoFlight, that business encompasses aircraft distribution, charter services, maintenance, training and ground support, including authorized distribution of Leonardo helicopters in India. Such capabilities could help support market entry, although the announcement did not specify operating locations or commercial-service launch dates.
SUNSHIP adds infrastructure to the proposed aircraft package. The floating platform integrates landing facilities, photovoltaic generation, energy storage, charging, dispatch and communications systems. AutoFlight designed it to support operations across rivers, lakes and coastal waters, providing an alternative to constructing land-based vertiports.
AutoFlight has already pursued overseas certification for its cargo aircraft. In June, the company announced that the V2000CG had received Indonesian validation of its type certificate, following Chinese certification in 2024. That milestone concerns the cargo model in Indonesia; it does not establish approval for passenger operations or deployments in India and Brazil.
The agreement illustrates how Chinese eVTOL developers are approaching overseas expansion through aircraft, infrastructure and operating partnerships together. Training and maintenance support will matter alongside aircraft performance as prospective operators prepare fleets for service.
The immediate commercial test is whether the initial commitments progress to delivery and whether the wider procurement becomes signed purchase agreements. Certification, operating permissions and viable routes in each destination market will determine how much of the proposed fleet ultimately enters service.
