Selected Development

1. Runjian Subsidiary Signs US$200 Million Cross-Border AI Token Services Contract

【Event】On October 18, Wuxiang Yungu(五象云谷), a subsidiary of Runjian(润建股份), signed a US$200 million cross-border AI token services contract with an overseas counterparty identified as Company X. The dollar-denominated agreement provides overseas access to computing capacity hosted in China, with services billed according to token usage. Public reporting describes it as the first major order under a model that keeps computing infrastructure in China while delivering services abroad.

The contract uses AI tokens as the billing unit, with an overseas buyer accessing model inference services supported by infrastructure that remains in China. This structure avoids the export-control and logistical constraints associated with shipping advanced computing hardware overseas, allowing Chinese training and inference capabilities to generate revenue through services. It offers a practical route for taking AI capabilities into international markets.

At US$200 million, the contract substantially exceeds the scale of a typical pilot purchase, indicating overseas customers’ willingness to pay for Chinese model inference services at scale. For Runjian, it represents an expansion from domestic telecommunications maintenance into computing operations. For the industry, it validates a commercial model combining computing capacity in China with overseas access.

However, the counterparty is identified only as “overseas Company X.” Its name, home country and specific applications have not been disclosed. Contract performance and revenue recognition remain to be seen, and the agreement should not be treated as revenue already realized.

2. XPeng Begins Large-Scale GX Shipments to the Middle East and Africa, with Overseas Orders Exceeding 3,000

【Event】On October 17, XPeng(小鹏汽车)began large-scale shipments of its premium GX SUV to the Middle East and Africa. Orders from the Middle East had exceeded 3,000 vehicles before overseas pricing was announced. This is a supply milestone rather than completed customer delivery, marking the model’s overseas expansion through pre-orders placed on the strength of its product offering.

Positioned as a premium intelligent SUV, the GX extends XPeng’s international footprint into the Middle East and Africa following its expansion in Europe and Southeast Asia. More than 3,000 orders before pricing was announced suggest considerable awareness of the brand and its products among local dealers and customers. The development reflects a shift in vehicle exports from competing on low prices and volume toward premium products and technology.

Large-scale vehicle shipments also carry batteries, electric drive systems, power electronics, assisted-driving technology and components into overseas markets, increasing the visibility of Chinese intelligent EVs in the Gulf and North Africa. Energy transition efforts in the Middle East, alongside high per-capita spending on cars, are making the region an important source of incremental demand for mid-range and premium EVs.

The distinction remains important: the announcement concerns shipments and more than 3,000 orders, rather than completed deliveries or monthly sales. Final export volumes and revenue will depend on customer deliveries and progress with local certification.

3. Neolix Raises Nearly US$400 Million in Series E, Leading Global Autonomous Delivery Fleet Deployment

【Event】On October 20, autonomous-driving company Neolix(新石器)completed a Series E round of nearly US$400 million, the sector’s largest single financing of the year. The company has deployed more than 30,000 autonomous delivery vehicles worldwide, placing it among the leaders in deployment scale. The new funding will support its global transport capacity network.

The round sets a financing record for the autonomous-driving sector this year, with proceeds supporting global fleet expansion and network development. Deployment of more than 30,000 vehicles indicates that low-speed autonomous goods transport has established a commercial model in last-mile logistics, making it one of the earliest embodied-AI segments to expand internationally at scale.

Overseas, autonomous delivery is entering local services, campuses and last-mile logistics across Europe, North America and the Global South. The additional capital is intended to secure a position in these transport networks. Compared with more heavily regulated applications such as robotaxis, low-speed operations in closed or partially closed environments face fewer compliance obstacles and are easier to replicate across borders.

This announcement marks the completion of financing. Details of overseas deployment countries, operating entities and vehicle-level profitability still require further disclosure. The deployment of more than 30,000 vehicles should not be equated with profitable overseas operations.

4. AliExpress Forms Global Strategic Partnership with YouTube Across Four Markets

【Event】On October 19, AliExpress(速卖通), the cross-border marketplace owned by Alibaba(阿里巴巴), joined the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program. The partnership initially covers the UK, Germany, Brazil and the US, enabling purchases through products featured in videos and creator content and connecting Chinese cross-border commerce with global content audiences.

The integration allows AliExpress merchandise to appear in videos and creator content with direct purchase links. It marks a shift in Chinese cross-border e-commerce from standalone stores and marketplace listings toward brand building through content discovery and immediate conversion. The first four markets span mature European e-commerce markets, high-growth Latin America and the core North American market.

For merchants expanding overseas, YouTube’s global distribution can lower the initial cost of building brand awareness and reduce dependence on a single source of platform traffic. For the industry, the partnership further blurs the boundary between content and commerce platforms, aligning with Chinese companies’ strategy of using established overseas audiences to build brands.

The announcement represents a channel-access milestone covering four markets. Actual gross merchandise value, creator participation and compliance with local requirements—including data and consumer protection—remain subject to operational validation. The partnership should not be treated as having already generated assured revenue.

5. CATL Discloses Multiple Overseas Energy Storage Developments in Q3 Report

【Event】On October 21, CATL(宁德时代)disclosed several overseas energy storage developments in its third-quarter report: an exclusive supply role exceeding 3GWh in Australia, a 2GWh sodium-ion battery project in Central and Eastern Europe, and progress on a 5GWh project in the Netherlands. Spanning Oceania, Central and Eastern Europe, and Western Europe, the projects indicate an expansion from individual cell supply toward regional project delivery.

The three developments represent different forms of overseas business. The Australian project involves exclusive supply of more than 3GWh, pointing to a long-term relationship in utility-scale storage. The 2GWh project in Central and Eastern Europe uses sodium-ion batteries, representing the technology’s overseas deployment at scale. The 5GWh project in the Netherlands is situated in a mature Western European electricity market with demanding grid-connection rules, safety standards and local service requirements. Together, they suggest that overseas storage expansion is progressing on a regional basis rather than through isolated orders.

The value captured by Chinese storage companies overseas is moving further downstream. Previously, Chinese suppliers mainly provided cells or modules, leaving overseas integrators to handle system design and operations. Leading companies are now participating directly in utility-scale integration and long-term services, increasing value per watt and strengthening customer relationships. This also places greater demands on grid compliance, safety certification and long-term maintenance.

The sodium-ion development warrants attention. Sodium-ion batteries offer advantages in low-temperature performance and raw-material availability, although their lower energy density compared with lithium-ion batteries makes them better suited to cost-sensitive grid applications with fewer space constraints. If delivered as planned, the Central and Eastern European project will provide a case for observing large-scale overseas grid deployment of sodium-ion storage.

These are progress disclosures in a quarterly report, rather than announcements of newly signed orders. Delivery schedules, revenue recognition and final project scale remain dependent on subsequent construction and grid connection. The disclosed capacities should not be equated with recognized revenue.
