Earlier on February 15, 2019, Huawei announced that it will launch the 5G Digital Indoor System (DIS) in Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, the largest railway station in the city, on February 18, 2019.
Huawei noted that in the future about 70% of new services in the 5G era will happen indoor and that’s why they have higher standards for indoor 5G technology and propose indoor digitalization.
Huawei claims that DIS is a widely recognized 5G solution in the industry. Its three key elements such as Digital Headend, IT Cable and Visualized O&M differentiating itself from the current used traditional distributed antenna system (DAS).
DAS has been used since the GSM era. One of its main issues is the signal loss over cables is much higher as higher frequency bands due to its high-frequency band specific components.
Ritchie Peng, president of Huawei's small cell product line, said: "On the path toward 5G indoor coverage, DAS is struggling with higher feeder loss over the 3.5 GHz band, inability to support MIMO and indoor location-based services. It's time now to start indoor digital coverage. Huawei’s LampSite Series solutions can adapt to various indoor scenarios and provide optimal digital solutions for operators and tower companies."
The transition of indoor coverage from DAS to IDS is taking place across operators, tower companies, and analysts. The benefits could result from bettering MBB experience, lowering engineering costs, increasing O&M efficiency, and diversifying services.
The solution comes with IDS is the LampSite Family adapting to diverse indoor scenarios from capacity demands to coverage needs. This solution is said to be the most efficient way for operators to address coverage and user experience issues of indoor MBB services. Lampsite series now has products for both single and multi-operator access.
Lastly, for travelers, the most obvious observations after this 5G solution been built will be higher internet surfing speed and better video/video gaming experiences.
