Xpeng plans to deliver 10,000 G3 by the end of July 2019 and sells 40,000 units by the end of December 2019.

Chinese new car manufacturer Xpeng Motors celebrated the completion of production of its 10,000th G3 at Zhengzhou smart factory on June 18. Xpeng G3 went public on December 12, 2018, so it took 188 days from the launch of the G3 to its 10,000th vehicle rolling off the assembly line.

NIO, the only public company among Chinese new car manufacturers. Its first model, ES8, went on sale on December 16, 2017, and completed the manufacture of its 10,000th units in November 2018, which took more than 11 months.

10,000 units is not an achievement to boast about for a traditional car company, but for an Internet startup, it means a lot. Such as the initial establishment of system capability, the first batch of user reputation and the accumulation of original data.

Xpeng has been getting good news recently. On June 11, the sales data released by the National Passenger Car Association showed that in May this year, the company delivered 2,704 G3 to customers, up 22.9% month-on-month. From January to May, the company has sold 7,359 G3 in total, ranking the first among Chinese new car manufacturers in this period of 2019.

The G3 (G is for Geek) is Xpeng’s debut model, with a starting price of CNY 199,800 (USD 28,850) for its premium version after the subsidy. The current range on its fast-charge battery, which takes 30 minutes to charge up to 80 percent capacity, is 365 kilometres.

On March 18 this year, Xpeng announced that 30 supercharging stations in five cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Wuhan were officially put into operation, providing convenient and efficient charging solutions for owners of Xpeng G3 and other new energy brands.

Xpeng officially pushed the OTA upgrade software of Xmart OS 1.4 version to G3 users in batches on June 11. After the upgrade, Xpeng G3 (Zhixiang version and Zunxiang version) will open the ICA (intelligent cruise assist) function, marking G3 officially enters the L2 level era in the field of autonomous driving.

Competition among new car manufacturers will ultimately be a competition of system capabilities: first, R&D and manufacturing capabilities, as well as product and cost control; Second, the ability to control the market, including product positioning and market prediction; Third, corporate culture, the core values of car manufacturing.

“The 10,000th vehicle is an important milestone for us because it validates the management of our direct-to-customer sales and distribution strategy in more than 200 Chinese cities, as well as our ability to manage our supply chain and our manufacturing,” said the carmaker’s chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng, during an interview in Hong Kong.

By the end of this year, Xpeng's second-generation smart car, the P7, will go on sale. Xpeng plans to deliver 10,000 G3 by the end of July 2019 and sell 40,000 units by the end of December 2019. So how does Xpeng guarantee delivery within the next month?
