Huawei has secured 50 5G contracts worldwide under the US pressure and gained the first 5G terminal device license in domestic market.
Huawei has obtained 50 5G commercial contracts worldwide, according to Ding Yun (丁耘), Huawei's managing director and president of telecom carrier business. The number was 30 back to February, released at the MWC Barcelona (Mobile World Congress).
Huawei has surpassed Nokia becoming the leading company in 5G telecommunication equipment with respect to the number of contracts. Its 5G contracts were among overseas market including countries such as South Korea, Switzerland, U.K., Finland, Qatar, Kuwait, etc. Other competitors in this area include Nokia (42 contracts), ZTE (25 contracts), Ericsson (22 contracts).
Under U.S. pressure, it seems Huawei managed to maintain its leadership worldwide. At the same time, U.S. companies are seeking to resume activities with Huawei, reported Wall Street Journal.
The company is also making progress in the domestic market. The Huawei device official Weibo has posted on June 25 that "the Huawei 5G dual-mode mobile phone Mate 20 X (5G) is granted the first domestic 5G terminal telecom equipment network license." With license number 001, Huawei is likely to be the first OEM to launch 5G phones in China.
Huawei Mate 20X 5G is equipped with Balong 5000 and HiSilicon Kirin 980 7nm chipset, supporting industry-leading 5G. It's also the only available handset that supports both NSA(Non-Standalone) and SA (Standalone) architecture to transition to 5G network, with NSA supporting a mix of 5G, 4G, 3G and 2G network and SA supporting 5G network independently.
Li Xiaolong (李小龙), vice president of Huawei product line, wrote under the post that under 5G NSA, operators can adapt the core network usable for both 4G and 5G to save network investment but couldn't support 5G features such as low latency. In addition, handsets connecting to both 4G and 5G network under NSA consume more battery power. Operators tend to adopt NSA at the early stage, but SA is the direction of 5G evolvement.
