According to CATL’s official Weibo account, CATL and Mercedes-Benz have stepped up their strategic partnership – both will continue to develop leading battery technology to support the mass electrification of Mercedes models. While Mercedes is pushing its electrification first strategy, CATL will provide it with advanced batteries, modules, and battery pack products that meet carbon-neutral standards.
This strategic agreement covers power battery technology in various fields, including batteries and modules for Mercedes-Benz passenger car products, and overall battery packs for light commercial vehicle products, which will have a broad range of prospects. The innovative technology configuration, such as the CTP (Moduleless Battery Pack), is the core appeal of the product design of CATL. This design saves the traditional module link and integrates the cells directly into the battery pack.
In order to enhance the competitiveness of Mercedes electric vehicles in the high-end market, the two parties also set ambitious goals: the EQS pure electric luxury sedan equipped with CATL battery modules will be launched in 2021, with a cruising range of more than 700 km / 435 miles (WLTP standard), and a charging speed that will operate twice as fast as existing models.
