China Mobile Plans to Build 5G City in Tianjin by 2025

The large communication company is aiming at improving the penetration rate of 5G in China.

On December 11, China Mobile and Tianjin municipal government signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The company plans to build a "5G city" in Tianjin during the "14th Five-Year Plan " period. The plan will combine big data, IoT, cloud computing, and blockchain to accelerate the digital economy development in Tianjin.

 Recently, China Mobile announces it has built 8,000 5G base stations in Tianjin. The company has realized 5G coverage in the city's major scenarios such as transportation centers and sports centers. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, more than 12,000 5G base stations will be built in 2021, and 17,000 5G base stations will be built in 2022. At the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the company will finish 25,000 5G base stations’ construction in Tianjin.

 According to the financial report of China Mobile in Q3 2020, the company achieves CNY 574.4 billion in the first three quarters, up 1.4% year-on-year, 91.5% of which comes from the communication service business. It is worth noting that the company's 5G users reached 114 million and ranks the top in China. China Mobile said it will continue to increase investment in New Infrastructure such as 5G technology. It is planned to invest about CNY 5 billion during the 14th Five Year Plan period, surging 150% compared with that of the 13th Five Year Plan period.
