On March 1, NIO announced that the company delivered 6,131 electric vehicles in February, up 9.9% year-on-year. On March 28, the company is planning to deliver its flagship sedan ET7 to consumers.
So far, NIO has delivered over 180,000 units of smart electric vehicles, exceeding other leading NEV brands like Li Auto and XPeng Motors over the same period.
By evolving from the previous car models, in 2022, NIO is expected to produce the new ET7 model. According to NIO's second-quarter report, the ET7 model will be an e-segment electric sedan that will offer three lithium-ion battery options and extend a driving range to 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) on the NEDC cycle.
In September this year, the company will deliver the mid-sized sedan ET5 to customers based on the NT2.0 autonomous driving platform. The company will launch a total of three NT2.0 models, including ET7, this year. This platform encompasses four NVIDIA Orin computing chips (1016TOPS) which is a lidar with a maximum detection range of 250 meters at 10% reflectivity.
In 2Q 2022, NIO had a net loss of CNY 587 million, compared with a net loss of CNY 450 million in the previous quarter. This situation has mainly resulted from the increase in operating expenses, including research and development expenditures and sales and administrative expenditures.
Other car manufacturers, such as XPeng and Li Auto, have also released their Q2 reports. None of them have achieved more than 10,000 delivery units in February due to the unoptimized season for the overall car market in China.
However, NIO is taking a full sprint in producing new car models with a shortened progress in benefits of a complete hardware platform, vehicle platform, and the R&D toolchain. As the company's ET5 model has gained significant market recognition, it is expected that the new deliveries of ET7 will boost the company's net sales growth in 2022.
