The company will roll out the car shortly after the launch of Destroyer 05, a sedan
Media have reported that China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently cataloged BYD's newest purely electric vehicle "Seal." The model belongs to the Ocean series and is based on the company's e 3.0 electronic and electric architecture.
A mid-sized sedan, the Seal adopts the Dragon Face 3.0 family design with a bit of sports-car appearance. Products from the lineup share the same dimension, including 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, 1,460 mm in height and 2,920 mm in wheelbase.
The interior may be similar to a BYD Dolphin car, equipped with a LCD dashboard and a central control large screen.
The model will have three versions, with the most expensive one able to accelerate from zero to 60 miles/h in 3.8 seconds, powered by a dual-motor four-wheel drive system with a maximum output of 390kW. The other two variants will be equipped with a 150kW or 230kW motor.
Observers consider Seal as a competitor of Tesla's best-selling Model 3 in China. According to an anonymous BYD dealer, the expected price of the car ranges from CNY 220,000 to CNY 280,000 (USD 34,500 to USD 44,000). By comparison, Tesla’s Model 3 retails at CNY 279,900 and 367,900 (USD 44,000 and USD 57,845).
BYD Seal will debut in April at the Beijing Auto Show.
