Aiways reached an agreement in battery exchange services with CATL, and both companies will improve their competitive advantage in domestic and international markets
Aiways (Chinese: 爱驰汽车), a Chinese manufacturer of electric cars, has cooperated with CATL in the battery exchange business.
Evogo, a battery swap solution, comprises battery blocks, fast battery swap stations and an app, and is rolled out by Contemporary Amperex Energy Service Technology Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of CATL.
Based on the agreement between CATL and Shanghai-based Aiways, the battery swap-version of Aiways’ first model, an electric SUV called U5, will be launched in Q4 2022.
Zhang Yang, the CEO of Aiways, said that the company will cooperate with CATL in technology, resources and services, which would benefit both parties. Also, the company, founded in 2017, is prepared to enter the international market and provide high-quality charging and battery exchange services to global users.
In the domestic market, CATL is not the only company that provides battery swap service. Other major players include NIO, Aulton New Energy (Chinese: 奥动新能源), BAIC Blue Park (Chinese: 北汽蓝谷) and Botan Technology (Chinese: 伯坦科技).
