The carmaker defied headwinds such as increased industry competition, prolonged chip shortage and surging raw material costs, and a coronavirus pandemic, and achieved stable growth in 2021.

China’s new energy vehicle maker Leapmotor (Chinese: 零跑汽车) surprisingly grabbed the highest sales among the so-called EV-making new forces in April, coming at the top with 9,087 units.

The other four top five players, Xpeng, Neto (Chinese: 哪吒汽车), NIO and Li Auto ranked 2nd to 5th, selling 9,002, 8,813, 5,074 and 4,167 cars, respectively.

Media reported that Leapmotor, headquartered in eastern China’s Hangzhou and founded in 2015,  grew NEV sales at a solid pace in April 2022, the NEV sales reached to 9,087 units, up 228% year on year, down 9% month on month. Moreover, it delivered 30,666 units from January to April.

One of the main reasons that Leapmotor clinched the top spot of the April delivery is that it deployed its supply chains nationwide, sourcing raw materials and car components from many parts across the country, according to media reports

Shanghai has been placed under a lockdown for over one month, putting significant pressure on EV makers to maintain production amid already severe supply chain shortages. Leapmotor’s decentralized supply chain layout enabled it to withstand the impact of Covid-19 better than some competitors.
