Despite rising raw material prices, China’s battery companies strengthened their position in the global market.
In the first quarter of 2022, the global shipment of EV batteries reached 95.1GWh, an increase of 93.3% compared with the same period the previous year, and the top 10 battery makers take 90% of the market share, according to SNE Research.
China, South Korea, and Japan are the major players of the global EV battery market, and their battery shipment was 53 GWh, 25 GWh, and 9.4 GWh, respectively.
Six of the top 10 battery makers are from China, with a combined market share of 55.7%. Of the rest, three are from South Korea with a market share of 26.3% and one is from Japan, accounting for 9.9% of the market.
China’s EV battery makers grew at a steady pace in the first quarter of 2022. CATL, BYD, CALB (Chinese: 中创新航), Gotion High-Tech (Chinese: 国轩高科), Svolt Energy (Chinese: 蜂巢能源), Eve Energy (Chinese: 亿纬锂能) are among the top 10 players. Their growth rates went up 137.7%, 220.4%, 208.7%, 179.9%, 137.5% and 132.4% year on year, respectively.
