Great Wall Motor May Sales Grows 49% to 80,062 Units

In March, GWM reported car sales down by 20% in February and blamed Bosch for being unable to supply enough ESP products.

China's homegrown brand Great Wall Motor (2333:HK) disclosed May sales data, which rose by 49% month-on-month (MoM) to 80,062 vehicles with 12,317 units stemming from overseas business.

Specifically, models of over CNY 150,000 (USD 22,400) accounted for 15% of total deliveries. The company's three platforms ''Lemon (includes Haval and Ora),'' ''Tank'' and ''Coffee (Wey brand)'' made up 64% of May sales.

Haval brand sold 41,748 vehicles, rose 43.3% MoM. Among them, the H6 monthly sales reached 20,088 units. The Ora brand shipped 10,768 electric cars, up 248.7% from last month.

The sales of Tank brands achieved 8,018 units in May, up 32.2% MoM. The Tank 500, a medium to large SUV, has sold more than 2,500 units since its launch. Besides, a new version of Tank's best selling model Tank 300 will be available in June.

Wey brand delivered 2,520 units in May, 9.9% higher than the previous month.

Great Wall Pickup trucks sold 17,008 units, including 13,190 Great Wall ''Cannon'', bouncing 30% month-on-month.

After China's auto market dived in April and May, the nation issued two policies of ''sending cars to the countryside'' and reducing vehicle purchase tax last month to stimulate the economy.

These measurements cover Great Wall Motor's model as well. Ora Good Cat and its GT version are included in the catalog of spurring NEV consumption in rural regions. All models of Haval brand enjoy the purchase tax reduction benefits.

GWM's local competitors include BYD (1211:HK), Geely Auto (0175:HK), Changan Auto (000625:SH) and Chery.
