The first cloud-native game program was introduced.
Tencent Games held an annual press conference to publicly show its products and technological progress, and disclose a number of game technology derivative projects, IP games, and new game content. Among them, Tencent's cloud game technology demonstration video “EVOLUTION” is Tencent's first cloud-native game project, Jiemian News reported.
The main content of the demo is the dinosaur movement scene in the tropical rain forest, focusing on the high-precision rendering and simulation effects of dinosaurs and vegetation. Tencent said that the demo was recorded by a real machine, and the second half of the demo also showed that the model making and other sectors were completed by the Unreal Engine 5.
Cloud gaming is a type of online gaming that runs video games on remote servers and streams them directly to a user's device, or more colloquially, playing a game remotely from a cloud. And cloud-native games use the cloud to process certain parts of the game, such as physics, lighting, environments or AI.
People familiar with the matter said that at present, many manufacturers from all over the world have gathered in the cloud game industry. However, due to high R&D expenses and high technical barriers, the field of cloud-native games is still lack of competitors, and there is no mature game design technology based entirely on cloud.
In China, Tencent, Alibaba, and Huawei have established a lot of teams to move PC games, console games, and mobile games to the cloud. Among them, Tencent’s START cloud game platform has achieved commercial operation; Alibaba’s cloud game business is concentrated under the “Yuanjing” brand, which Ali calls “Yuanjing” an integrated research and operation service platform for the cloud game era.
