On July 21, BYD (Chinese:比亚迪), a famous Chinese electronic vehicle maker, held a press conference in Tokyo and announced that BYD would enter the Japanese passenger car market and unveil three models, named Atto 3 (Yuan Plus), Dolphin, and Seal.

According to the company’s statement, Atto 3 will start selling at the beginning of 2023, followed by two additional EV models later in the same year.

After announcing the plan, BYD stated that they would work with local partners to gradually establish the sales and service system and dealership network to bring Japanese consumers a better service experience and a low-carbon commuting way.

For BYD, it is not the first time to enter Japan market, as the company has already sold various products, including rechargeable batteries, solar energy products, pure electric buses, pure electric forklifts, and more in Japan market.

However, it is not easy to compete with Japanese auto manufacturers as a foreign car maker in Japanese market. Due to advantages in traditional fuel vehicles for Japanese OEMs, large numbers of foreign car makers have quit the market, while in the EV market, Chinese OEMs has more competitive advantages than Japanese auto maker.

In the field of globalization, BYD has established bus manufacturing facilities in California, Ontario, and Kumarom in Hungary.
