Luxic (Chinese: 玏芯科技), a high-speed optoelectronic chip designer, completed two rounds of financing worth hundreds of millions of CNY, which Pre-Series A funding round was led by Source Code Capital and Series A financing round was led by China Fortune-Tech Capital.
The money will be mainly used for technology research and development, product matrix expansion, mass production, guaranteeing product delivery, and promoting high-speed optical communication products marketing.
Xiao Jiawei, the founder and CEO of Luxic, said that chip designers should think more about how to carry out technological innovation according to market demand. These photoelectric conversion chips' function and design framework are generally similar, but different applications have different requirements for speed, process and price. The pursuit of technological innovation is not only speed improvement, but also how to make products more suitable for the market.
From 2019 to 2021, high-speed optoelectronic chips grew rapidly, and the proportion of optoelectronic chip used in 25G optical modules expanded. The overall market space grew from USD 1.356 billion to USD 1.913 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 18.8%. The market size for high-speed optoelectronic chips is expected to reach USD 2.306 billion in 2022.
Luxic's existing chip solutions can cover full-range (SR-ZR+) scenarios with transmission rates ranging from 25G to 800G in optical communications. Luxic has now started exploring laser radar-related technologies, focusing on the conversion chip market for in-vehicle applications.
"Believe that in the future of localization superimposed digitalization, Luxic will fast forward in the high-speed chip field with its profound R&D accumulation and fast product landing ability." Zhang Huanlin, the partner of China Fortune-Tech Capital, said.
Luxic’s international competitors include AMD and Synopsys and domestic ones include Guoxin Micro(Chinese:紫光国微), Giga Device(Chinese:兆易创新) and CXMT(Chinese:长鑫存储).
