Niutron (Chinese:自游家汽车) was founded as a new project in 2018 by Li Yinan, the founder of the electric scooter company Niu Technologies and also a former Huawei executive. Niutron is based in Beijing, with a research center in Shanghai. Niutron developed the "Gemini" platform within three years, and its R&D team grew to a group of 1,000 people with an average of more than 10 years of working experience.
Niutron revealed its first model's design and core specifications based on the Gemini platform on January 12th. The model features a vintage design concept Niutron calls Urban Exploring, with a highly recognizable upward light strip extending from the front doors to the tail. The C-pillar is made of silver metallic material and embedded with digital charging indicators, which allows the owner to observe the battery level at any time. Niutron's Changzhou manufacturing plant started production in March and is expected to have an annual capacity of 180,000 cars.
The first vehicle from Niutron is a midsize SUV and will be officially launched at 8 PM tonight. The vehicle has a length, width, and height of 4915mm x 1950mm x 1750mm, and a wheelbase of 2900mm. It is equipped with an IAWD system and has L2+ assisted driving capabilities. Additionally, it can accelerate from 0-100km/h within 5.9 seconds and offers owners 7 driving modes.
